The Beechman Hits the Jackpot with Monét X Change

By Michael Barbieri****With the move of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to VH1, this reality competition is reaching more drag fans than ever before.  The art of drag has definitely become a global phenomenon!  Here in New York City, the Laurie Beechman Theatre has become the performance home to many of the “Ru Girls”—the fabulous drag artists who’ve competed on “Drag Race.”  At 7 pm on February 7th, 8th and 9th, the Beechman will once again present one of the most popular of the “Drag Race queens”—the gorgeous, glamorous, talented Monét X Change! in “Call Me By Monét.”

Monét X Change was a contestant on Season 10 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and is currently poised to become one of the top four finalists on “Drag Race All Stars; Season 4!”  Born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, Monét is a classically trained opera singer with a bass voice, who has released recordings and accompanying videos of her cover of Billie Holliday’s “Strange Fruit” and her original single, “Soak It Up.” This latter is a little nod to her very first runway look on “Drag Race”—a now iconic gown made from the ubiquitous green and yellow kitchen sponges we all know and use!  She calls herself “unapologetically Black” and she’s known for her energetic, show-stopping performances, her lip-syncing skills, comedic chops and, as she says, her mostly pitch-perfect live vocals!

Call Me By Monét at the Beechman will color your world in broad strokes.  All your friends will be pea-green with envy, because you caught this fabulous queen’s red hot evening of black comedy, blues and kaleidoscopic pop songs!  Don’t miss these extra special performances from the queen who just might become the new “RuPaul’s Drag Race” All Star!
