Pianist-vocalist Dan Pardo, entertainer and music director extraordinaire, is starting a new gig at piano bar, Marie’s Crisis. Pardo has been working there for several years as a sub, and will now take on a regular spot on the roster on Mondays from 9:30 PM to closing—with Joseph O’Neill behind the bar and Yvette Monique Clark on the floor. Pardo thanks Randy Taylor for bringing him on, Kenney M. Green for asking him to sub this shift throughout the years, and music director Drew Wutke for introducing him to Marie’s Crisis post-pandemic.
Marie’s Crisis opened its doors in 1929 as a restaurant/speakeasy by Marie DuMont. The Crisis part of the name comes from the fact that Thomas Paine who wrote the pamphlet, The American Crisis, died on the site in 1809. The current building dates back to 1839. From that date to 1929 the building was once a boarding house then a brothel, then eventually became the bar it is now. What a history!
And the fervor lives on. Pardo’s ebullience, energy and talent promise a lively time; “Let’s sing some showtunes!” he says.
