Paid Streaming Service, The Trickle Up, Launches to Help Artists in Economic Crisis

The closures and restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll on New York City performing artists and musicians, who’ve seen their livelihoods abruptly suspended. To help those in economic need, playwright Taylor Mac, along with Kristin Marting, Morgan Jenness, Emily Morse, Niegel Smith, and a group of over 50 other New York City artists—inspired by the artists-on-behalf-of-artists activism of Elizabeth Swados—have launched a subscription video platform, The Trickle Up (A NYC Artists Network).

Participating artists have agreed to stream at least three videos on the website; each will choose one artist in need to receive funds raised. The initial goal is to attract 10,000 subscribers at $10 per month in order to give $10,000 to selected artists now, and through the year. If the goal is surpassed, more people will get help. The Trickle Up, also plans to continue supporting artists beyond the COVID-19 crisis.

Fifty artists have already signed on to donate their time.
