Actor/Singer Sierra Rein Debuts “Running In Place” at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, April 12th

Sierra Rein’s Running in Place opens on Thursday, April 12 at 7 PM (with additional shows on April 29 at 7 PM and May 12 at 2 PM) at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street, Downstairs at the West Back Café). Ever since the singer arrived in New York from California in 2008, she’s been on the go. Her busy schedule has brought her through a flurry of activities including regional theater, cruise line shows, and performing in the award-winning vocal group Marquee Five. Rein knows what it feels like to be Running In Place.

Running in Place weaves together American Songbook gems, contemporary Broadway and pop numbers and new cabaret classics, with a theme of dreaming against all odds. Aome of the numbers are “I want” songs from unfulfilled women yearning for something to come out of their persistent struggle. “I’m hoping my show will encourage audiences to think, believe, dream and dare,” Rein says, “and to maintain momentum even when they feel like they’re running in place.” The set list includes works by Stephen Sondheim, Dave Frishberg, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Zina Goldrich and Marcy Heisler, Kander and Ebb and more. The show is directed by James Beaman with Musical Direction by Bill Zeffiro, with Matt Scharfglass on bass and Rex Benincasa on drums.

Rein has appeared as Ursula (The Little Mermaid) and as Fairy Godmother, various “Moms” and a Pirate for Disney Cruise Line. In regional theater, her roles included: City of Angels (Goodspeed), The Little Shop of Horrors (Utah Shakespearean Festival), Boys From Syracuse and The Pajama Game (Reprise!), Camelot and The Sound of Music (Fullerton CLO), Strange Fruit (NY City Opera), Master Class (Odyssey Theater) and Bare (Hudson Theater).
