The Comedy Trio, Unitard, Appears at Joe’s Pub on Thursday, April 30

The comedy trio Unitard appears at Joe’s Pub on Thursday, April 30 at 9:30 PM with Uni-Versary: 25 Years of Unitard, celebrating a quarter-century of comedy with a hilarious and hopefully not-too-offensive twist. The evening is directed by Adam Pivirotto.

For several generations, Unitard, made up of the combined talents of Mike Albo, Nora Burns and David Ilku, has been intriguing and inconveniencing audiences across the country with its comic take on society, politics and social norms. For this anniversary show, the trio is revisiting their crazy catalogue to unearth their best, worst and most delightfully dangerous material. The night will include surprise favorites, hilarious deep cuts and artfully offensive picks from their nearly three decades of shows.

Unitard has performed coast to coast as well as Canada. Formed in 2000, the group got their start at the famous, now-defunct nightspot Fez where many performers, including Murray Hill, Justin Vivian Bond and others, gained audiences. Their take-no-prisoners approach to sketch comedy has been poking fun at hypocrisy, shallowness, sanctimony from the right, left and middle — a release valve for audiences desperate for a break from the BS. Unitard has performed through five New York City mayors, six presidential administrations, countless wars, two blackouts, one devastating hurricane, the death of print media, the rise of “reality” and the eight-dollar coffee, and somehow still manage to say out loud what everyone else is thinking but afraid to utter.

Tickets are $36. The show has a 2 drink or 1 food item minimum, per person.

Joe’s Pub is located at the Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street (at Astor Place) New York, NY 10003.
