On April 4 producer/promoter/performer, Stephen Hanks launched the variety series, CABARET CAMPAIGNS: RIDE THE BLUE WAVE 2018!, which is raising funds for various Democratic candidates at each show. The second of these shows is being performed on Thursday, June 28 at 7 PM at Don’t Tell Mama (343 West 46th St, between 8th & 9th Ave). Six engaged, award-winning women headline: Meg Flather (representing Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown), Laurie Krauz (representing Texas State Senate Candidate Mark Phariss), Rosemary Loar (representing Washington Senator Maria Cantwell), Karen Oberlin (representing California Congressional Candidate Andrew Janz—running against Devin Nunes), Sue Matsuki (representing Texas US Senate Candidate Beto O’Rourke—running against Ted Cruz)and Lisa Viggiano (representing Wisconsin US Congress Candidate Randy Bryce—running for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s seat), with Tracy Stark as Musical Director.
The proceeds from each show will be donated to the candidates represented by the performers in that show. Hanks will be contributing matching funds from personal resources and donors equal to the amount raised from the show cover charges.
Future dates and casts for the series are as follows:
On August 16, 7 pm, CABARET CAMPAIGNS: RIDE THE BLUE WAVE 2018! (with Matthew Martin Ward as Musical Director) will feature Julie Reyburn, Sarah Rice, Janice Hall, Mary Sue Daniels, Katie Dunne McGrath, and Sierra Rein.
On September 13, an All-Male Cast will feature Mark Nadler, Adam Shapiro, Brian Charles Rooney, Jeff Macauley, Bruce Clough, and Rob Davis (with Ian Herman as Musical Director).
On October 4 (7 pm), Musical Theater Composer Michael Roberts (who has written the series theme song “The Great Blue Wave”) will serve as MD for Kim Grogg, Kim Sutton, Billie Roe, Annie Hughes, and Lynda D’Amour.
