Simply Sondheim, a musical revue featuring 30 Sondheim songs, originally created for Virginia’s Signature Theatre in 2015 by Eric Schaeffer and David Loud, streams in a new production from Tuesday, February 2 through Friday, March 26.

The 12-member cast is comprised of Norm Lewis, Solea Pfeiffer, Conrad Ricamora, Emily Skinner, Nicholas McDonough, Donna Migliaccio, Christopher Mueller, Katie Mariko Murray, Tracy Lynn Olivera, Paul Scanlan, Awa Sal Secka, and Bobby Smith. Songs include “Finishing the Hat,” “Losing My Mind,” “Another Hundred People” and lesser known gems including “Country House,” “Saturday Night” and “Goodbye for Now,” with new orchestrations for 16 instruments by Jonathan Tunick.

The show was filmed over the course of three days at Signature’s MAX Theatre with multiple safety protocols in place. Simply Sondheim was endorsed by the composer himself, who has enjoyed a long production history with the Signature Theatre, including a recent, pre-pandemic production of Assassins. The show was directed and choreographed by Matthew Gardiner, with musical direction by Jon Kalbfleisch, and vocal arrangements by David Loud.
