Salty Brine Premieres His Latest Theatrical-Cabaret Experience “I’m A Lot Like You,” Playing 6 Weeks at Pangea, May 23 to June 27

Time Out Critic’s Pick and 2018 Bistro Award winner Salty Brine premieres “I’m a Lot Like You,” the latest edition of his Living Record Collection, at Pangea, playing six consecutive Wednesdays from May 23 through June 27, all at 7 PM. The show is directed by Shaun Peknic, with music direction by Alex Thrailkill. “I’m a Lot Like You” looks at racial, national and sexual privilege through a lens of a different color. It features a band of multi-instrumentalists embedded in the staging, who include Michael Hunter, Matthew Marsh, Hiroyuki Matsuura, Alex Thrailkill, and Debbie Tjong. The arrangements are by Thrailkill and Mike Brun. The costumes are by Heather McDevitt Barton. The series is produced by Reed Whitney.

“I’m a Lot Like You” is an act of musical deconstruction, in which Brine frames literary and musical touchstones in new contexts (both on personal and socio-political levels). This edition is the 17th in the Living Record Collection series. Throughout the series Brine sheds light on chosen works, proving, often quite unexpectedly, their continued relevance. Developed and first seen in 2015, this new and updated production at Pangea, where Salty Brine is currently in residence, marks the show’s official theatrical debut.

Actor, playwright and cabaret artist, Brine is on the faculty of Playwrights Horizons Theater School, NYU. He is part of the vaudeville duo of Pepper ‘n Sam with Justin Levine and is currently rewriting the libretto of the musical “Kicks” (music by Alan Menken).

“I’m a Lot Like You” performs at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue, for a six-week engagement on Wednesdays May 23, 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27, all at 7 PM. There is a $20 music charge plus a $20 food and drink minimum. To purchase tickets online visit www.pangeanyc.com orvcall 212/995-0900.
