Rick Skye Stars in the New Comedy, “City and the Beast,” Available on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video and Google Play

Award-winning performer, Rick Skye, is now starring as a scheming, conniving, over-the-top socialite in the new comedy series, “City and the Beast,” playing the villainous “Kenny Canasta.” The first episode of the campy, screwball comedy is now available on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play. Those who enjoyed the antics of treacherous TV divas like “Dynasty’s” Alexis Carrington Colby and “All My Children’s” Erica Kane will want to check out Kenny Canasta in “City and the Beast”. The show also stars Stephanie Butler and Toni Ann Donohue.

The show was created by Tony Sawicki, who produced and directed the gay-themed entertainment news series, “Under the Pink Carpet,” which aired for over a decade on PBS-affiliated TV stations nationwide.  “I wanted to do something campy and fun, with characters that are kooky yet still believable,” Sawicki says of his current production. “Something really feel-good.”  He describes “City and the Beast” as a screwball comedy about a guitar man and a goldfish rescue.

Rick Skye is best known for writing and performing in many comic, award winning shows including The Flip Side of Neil Sedaka (Bistro Award – Best Male Musical Comedy Performance), MaCabaret – a tabloid fable and A Slice O’ Minnelli (Manhattan Association of Cabarets Award – Best Impersonator, 1995), which enjoyed seasons at The Edinburgh Festival, Covent Garden and in the West End at The Apollo Theatre and the Charring Cross Theatre. It won the award for “Best Achievement in Performance” at The Dublin Theatre Festival in 2007.  Among Skye’s many other award-winning shows are The War of the Mama Roses, Barbra and Liza Together with Steven Brinberg at The Leicester Square Theatre London, and in New York with Tommy Femia in Judy and Liza Together, which ran for seven years and garnered the duo a MAC Award in 2012.

  1. Great show! It was funny and the actors and actresses were point on. Loved the mom, she reminded me of a true city mom.
