Singer, recording artist and producer, Mary Porter is a North Carolina native and proud of it. She grew up on a working farm in eastern NC and learned how to drive a tractor before she learned to play the piano. Porter brought together a cast of performers with good ol’ southern roots—from Texas, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina—including violinist-vocalist Edmund Bagnell and vocalists Macon Prickett, Seth Sikes and Richard Skipper, plus Tony Award® nominee and GRAMMY winner NaTasha Yvette Williams, and North Caroina-born music director-pianist Mark Hartman.
The latest in her shows about the Southland, the cast offered songs made famous by southern artists such as Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Charlie Daniels, Otis Redding, Janice Joplin, John Coltrane and more. Southern Nights was a rousing fiesta of genres from pop to country to jazz.
