Maestra Music’s Amplify 2023 Event Is on Monday, March 27 at Chelsea Music Hall

The Obie Award-winning not-for-profit, Maestra Music, founded by Georgia Stitt, announces Amplify 2023, its third annual concert and community event on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 8 PM at Chelsea Music Hall. Music director Julianne B. Merrill leads a band made up entirely of Maestra members: Merrill (piano), Yuka Tadano (bass), Elena Bonomo (drums), Meghan Doyle (guitar), Tomoko Akaboshi (violin), and Sasha Ono (cello). The event is in person and virtual, aimed at reaching a global audience.

Maestra Music supports women and nonbinary musicians in the musical theater industry. In partnership with All Together Now, the event will raise funds for the organization’s programs. All Together Now was founded by award-winning director Jessica Ryan and is the first live digital studio focused solely on the strategy, creative, production, tech stack and data that enables live experiences for digital audiences.

Amplify 2023, written, directed, and hosted by Tony Award nominee and Maestra Advisory Board Member Kate Baldwin, will feature stories, conversations and musical performances from Broadway stars, composers, music directors and others, including, Baldwin, Alysha Umphress, Ellie Biron, Emily Borromeo, Blake Stadnik, Kennedy Caughell, Tyler Hardwick, Nicholas Rodriguez, Bre Jackson, Gizel Jimenez and Andy Kelso, among others, performing songs from composers including Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer, Cyndi Lauper, Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, Julia Riew, Zoe Sarnak and more.

Maestra Music, Inc. membership is made up of composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians who are an underrepresented minority in musical theater. The organization’s initiatives include monthly educational seminars, mentorship programs, technical skills workshops, networking events, and online resources and partnerships that aim to promote equality of opportunity and to address the many historical disadvantages and practices that have limited women and nonbinary composers and musicians in the musical theater.
