Mastercard holders will be able to see Jennifer Hudson Live at The Apollo Theater on Thursday, August 19 at 8 PM. The in-person gathering of Black women entrepreneurs and cardholders features Hudson performing classic Aretha Franklin hits from the new biopic, Respect, in which she stars. Hudson will also offer songs from her own catalogue.
Hudson first came to fame in 2004 as a finalist on “American Idol,” auditioning for the reality show with Franklin’s song, “Share Your Love With Me.” Since then, Hudson has won Grammy and Academy Awards. She plays Aretha Franklin in the new biopic, having been handpicked to portray her by the diva prior to her death in 2018. Respect tells the story of the rise of Franklin from the little girl singing in her father’s church in Detroit to the megastar who would go on to become the first women inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
