Kim David Smith’s “Mostly Marlene” Plays at Club Cumming on Sunday, August 22

Kim David Smith‘s Marlene Dietrich-drenched cabaret, Mostly Marlene, returns to Club Cumming on Sunday, August 22 at 8 PM. Musical direction is by award-winning accompanist Tracy Stark, with costumes by Miodrag Guberinic.

Mostly Marlene premiered at Club Cumming on March 2, 2020, and then the pandemic descended. Prior to this homecoming, Smith took the show to his native Australia, performing it at Alan Cumming’s 2021 Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Mostly Marlene conjures the glitter, doom, and decadence of 1920s Berlin and beyond in his intimate celebration of Dietrich’s musical and cultural legacy, with an added modicum of Minogue, Minelli, Madonna and more—a collision of Dietrich’s reimagined repertoire, from Weimar Berlin to Hollywood, through to the the battlefields of Europe and into the stratosphere with Dietrich’s “Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss.”
