Jack Kleinsinger’s Highlights In Jazz Presents A Salute to Randy Brecker on Thursday, May 16 at the BMCC TRIBECA Performing Arts Center

The third in the annual Highlights In Jazz series traditionally pays homage to a living jazz great. This year the honoree is trumpeter Randy Brecker, being fêted on May 16 at 8 PM at the BMCC TRIBECA Performing Arts Center, by a lineup that includes pianist George Cables, bassist Buster Williams, drummer/vibraphonist Chuck Redd, vocalist Veronica Swift, and saxophonists Peter Anderson and Will Anderson.

Randy Brecker has been an important presence on the music scene going back to the 1960s. In 1967 the Philadelphia-born master of trumpet and flugelhorn worked with both Blood, Sweat and Tears and Horace Silver. He then went on to become an important force in straight-ahead and fusion jazz. He is a co-founder of Dreams and the multi-Grammy nominated Brecker Brothers Band (with his brother, tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker). Brecker has been a contributor on albums by artists such as James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Parliament/Funkadelic, Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Jaco Pastorius, Frank Zappa and many more. He has earned numerous Grammys and a perennial slot on countless “best of” lists.

Jack Kleinsinger’s HIGHLIGHTS IN JAZZ 2019 continues next on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 8 P.M with Remembering Erroll & Randy: The Erroll Garner Project and A Randy Weston Tribute.
