Elena Bennett and Fred Barton Bring “We Know a Swing or Two” to Chelsea Table+Stage on Tuesday, February 7

The team of singer Elena Bennett and pianist Fred Barton will appear at Chelsea Table+Stage, with We Know A Swing Or Two, on Tuesday, February 7 at 7 PM.

The repertoire for this brand new show is mined from their formidable knowledge of Broadway, Hollywood and Big Band gems. Bennett’s expressive voice finds its perfect mate in pianist Fred’s “ten-fingered orchestral” style on the keys. The show is a celebration of life and love through jubilant swing music, featuring the songs of Yip Harburg, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy McHugh, Jimmy Van Heusen, Jule Styne, Bob Merrill and more! Also featured are rare songs as well as big hits.

Bennett is the winner of a MAC Hanson Award and a BACKSTAGE Bistro Outstanding Vocalist Award.  She has performed in countless venues as an actress and a singer, specializing in creative renditions of classics and novelties drawn from the American Songbook, as well as soul-stirring interpretations of Edith Piaf’s songs. As an actress she starred in Erik and the Snow Maidens and toured the country as the lead singer of the big-band revue Forever Swing. She was also  lead vocalist fort the Charles Brown Band, and the big band, “The Music Masters”.

Barton debuted as a co-creator of the original Forbidden Broadway—a two-night club act that ran for 27 years while winning the Tony Award and multiple Drama Desk and Critics’ Circle Awards, and spawning numerous CDs and touring companies. He then wrote book, music and lyrics for Miss Gulch Returns! (Back Stage Bistro Award in Musical Comedy Performance). His third off-Broadway venture, Whoop-Dee-Doo, won two Drama Desk Awards, and resulted in a London production and an RCA cast album, generating a sequel, When Pigs Fly. Among his many other credits, Barton composed for “The Magic Schoolbus” and won an Emmy for his work on the hit “Wonder Pets!” In addition to his extensive work on Broadway, his Pops arrangements are regularly played by symphonies around the country and Canada.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. A two-item minimum is required for each ticket holder. This can be a combination of any two items off the food and/or cocktail menus.
