Daryl Sherman and Jay Leonhart Team Up for an Appearance at Birdland Theater on Monday, April 11

Pianist-singer Daryl Sherman and bassist-singer Jay Leonhart will salute the pianist-singer-songwriters Blossom Dearie and Dave Frishberg on Monday, April 11 at 8:30 PM at Birdland, with Dave Silliman providing percussion.

Sherman has been a part of the New York City jazz scene since the mid-1970s, playing early stints at Sinatra hang-outs like Jilly’s. There’s probably hardly a jazz joint, supper club or hotel Daryl has missed. When Artie Shaw formed a new band after his retirement, Sherman was his chosen singer, calling her “a first rate singer–musician”. Her CDs are in regular rotation on Cable TV’s Music Choice, Sirius/XM Radio,BBC and Jazz Radio Berlin. She’s also been a frequent guest on Marian McPartland’s NPR Piano Jazz.

Leonhart has been named the Outstanding Bassist In the Recording Industry three times and has played with the likes of Judy Garland, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Buddy Rich, Jim Hall, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, Marian McPartland, Kenny Barron, Sting, James Taylor, Papa Joe Jones, Roy Eldridge, Jim Hall, Louie Bellson, Dick Hyman, Luciano Pavoratti and many more. Over the years, Jay Leonhart has been writing and singing his own songs about his life as a bass player.
