Bob O’Hare Reprises It’s a New World—A Celebration of Ira Gershwin at Don’t Tell Mama on Sunday, October 16

Singer Bob O’Hare is reprising his tribute show to Ira Gershwin, Bob O’Hare: It’s a New World—A Celebration of Ira Gershwin at Don’t Tell Mama on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 4:00 PM and on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 7:00 PM. O’Hare will be accompanied by The Tom Nelson Trio—Tom Nelson on piano, Tom Kirchmer on bass and Peter Grant on drums. The show is directed by multiple MAC award winner and Broadway and television veteran Eric Michael Gillett.

O’Hare originally planned his show as a tribute to the Gershwin brothers, but in doing research,  found himself identifying so strongly with Ira Gershwin’s wise and witty lyrics that he decided to create a show about him exclusively. Dedicating the performance to Ira Gershwin also allowed O’Hare to more fully explore his lyrical catalogue and the host of collaborators with whom he worked during his illustrious career. Harold Arlen, Kurt Weill, Vernon Duke, Jerome Kern are represented, along with a generous offering of Ira’s classic contributions to the stunning songs he wrote with his brother George. The repertoire covers everything from such well-known favorites as “Love is Here to Stay,” “S’Wonderful,” “My Ship” and “Long Ago and Far Away,” to hidden gems like “Dissertation on the State of Bliss.”

Cover charge is $20.00 ($15.00 for MAC members) with a $20.00 minimum (must include two-drinks). CASH ONLY!  Proceeds from the performances will benefit Benjamin House, North Carolina, an assisted-living residence for the mentally challenged.
