Dowtown cabaret venue Pangea has several shows on offer from now through New Year’s Eve wth Raven O. Here is the list:
The Los Angeles-based singer-actress Lauren White brings her new project, Out of the Past, a compendium of songs from notorious film noir classics. With jazz pianist Quinn Johnson leading his eponymous trio, this is a dark show with flashes of bright color that will get the adrenaline pumping. Sunday December 23, 7 pm. Cover is $25.
Singer-raconteur Sidney Myer, who has launched and nurtured countless singers, has been getting into the act of late, performing his first full show in years. The sell-out Live at Pangea!, which has been extended three times already, is back by popular demand, one last time in 2018. With music direction by Tracy Stark. Thursday, December 27 at 7 pm. Cover is $25
Vocalist and storyteller Rachelle Garniez brings a brand new edition of Farewell Party—the countdown of musicians who left us in the last 365. With bassist Derek Nievergelt and violinist Karen Waltuch. Friday, December 28, at 7 pm. Cover is $25.
Later that night, it’s the return of the Bastards—Jenny Lee Mitchell, Aldo Perez and Matt Kanelos (the show’s creators) plus the musically-challenged, spoon-playing clown Glen Heroy, and the malaprop drummer Nick Parker. This is the last chance to catch these jazz vaudevillians who are “the ill-born progeny of PDQ Bach and Al Capone.” Friday, December 28, at 9:30 pm. Cover is $15.
NEW YEAR’S EVE WITH RAVEN O
On New Year’s Eve, Raven O holds nothing back, with Ben Allison on bass. The singer is offering back-to-back shows of sultry songs and restless commentary both “boundary-breaking and intimate.” The shows, at 8 pm and 10:30 pm, are $125 pp and $165 pp respectively, and include a 3-course dinner and a half-bottle of Cava per person. Tax and gratuity are inclusive. (Additional beverages are not included, and are billed separately with 20% gratuity added.)
