Karen Mason, who originated the role of Tanya in Broadway’s Mamma Mia! and who played the villainous Queen of Hearts in the musical Wonderland, will be the featured guest August 14 at the live Broadway talk show Stage Fright at Therapy lounge in Manhattan.
Mason has become a fixture on the concert and cabaret scene across the U.S., making appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Rainbow & Stars, the Algonquin, The Supper Club and The Ballroom in New York; the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; the Cinegrill and the UCLA/ASCAP Concert Series in Los Angeles; the Plush Room in San Francisco; and Davenport’s in Chicago.
Mason has appeared regularly on Broadway, replacing Norma Desmond in the original run of Sunset Boulevard, and Velma von Tussel in Hairspray. She had also been scheduled to star in the ill-fated Rebecca, which closed in rehearsals.
The weekly Stage Fright series is hosted by drag personality Marti Gould Cummings with musical direction by Bradford Proctor. Guests are interviewed, do a performance, then play a game with the audience.
Next scheduled guest: Michael Urie (Buyer & Cellar, The Government Inspector, Ugly Betty) on August 28.
Stage Fright is presented Mondays at 10 PM at Therapy, located at 348 West 52nd Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. Tickets can be ordered by clicking here.
Karen Mason has been a special guest performer on two of Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas cruises. Cabins are available for Broadway on the Danube River with Michael Feinstein for November 3-13, 2017, also featuring Julia Murney, Christopher Fitzgerald, Marc Kudisch, Christopher Sieber, Brandon Uranowitz, and Seth Rudetsky, as well as other exciting talent to be announced.
