Trumpeter/Singer Bria Skonberg Celebrates Music by Women on Wednesday, April 25th at Joe’s Pub

Award-winning singer, trumpeter and songwriter, Bria Skonberg, returns to Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St., New York, NY on April 25 at 9:30 PM, to celebrate “veracious music by tenacious women.”  Joining Skonberg are Mathis Picard – keyboards/vocals, Lily Maase – guitars/vocals, Corcoran Holt – bass, Darrian Douglas – drums/percussion and Evan Arntzen – reeds /percussion /vocals. Skonberg’s style is eclectic, with a repertoire of tunes from Louis Armstrong to Aretha Franklin; she’s also sometimes regarded as “unconventional.” This performance promises both as Skonberg explores the contributions of women in jazz and popular music who speak truth to power.

Originally from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Skonberg moved to New York city in September 2010 and was signed to Sony Music Masterworks’ OKeh Records in 2016. Her debut album, Bria, won a Canadian JUNO award and made the Top 5 on Billboard jazz charts. Her second Sony album, With A Twist, released in 2017, features a large ensemble orchestra arranged by Gil Goldstein. Her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me To The End of Love” has garnered over 2 million streams. She has appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and over a hundred more.
