To celebrate the centenary of Mario Lanza’s birth, Sean Patrick Murtagh presents The Mario 100, beginning on Saturday, January 30 at 6 PM ET, the eve of Lanza’s 100th birthday. The year-long celebration will be a series of concerts, covering 100 songs, commemorating the enduring legacy of the Golden Tenor of Hollywood. The Mario 100! will be performed live on Facebook and available on YouTube.
Lanza was a golden-voiced Italian-American operatic singer and MGM crossover star prominent in the late 1940s and 1950s (he died in 1959 at age 38). Murtagh will present everything from Puccini to Porter—evenings filled with opera, Neapolitan, American Songbook and Broadway classics. The kick-off is his Mario! A Salute to the Great Lanza, an encore presentation of his cabaret debut, for which he won a 2020 MAC Award.
