Saxophonist Steve Wilson‘s all-star quintet begins a five-night residency at Smoke Jazz on Wednesday, April 29 through Sunday, May 3. Shows are at 6 and 8 PM, with an additional show at 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. The lineup is:
Steve Wilson – alto & soprano saxophone, flute
Joe Locke – vibraphone
Renee Rosnes – piano
Jay Anderson – bass
Kendrick Scott – drums
Wilson makes his debut at Smoke as a bandleader with this quintet of all-stars to celebrate the release of his new album, Enduring Sonance (Smoke Sessions Records). His multi-decade career includes significant tenures with the American Jazz Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra and Lionel Hampton. Wilson has contributed to more than 100 recordings, collaborating with an array of jazz luminaries including Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker and Maria Schneider.
