Welcome to the cabaret directors interview series on NiteLife Exchanges, hosted by NLE Publisher Scott Barbarino and co-hosted by Tony Javed. No longer a question, whether you’re a performing artist, neophyte director or a fan of the art form of cabaret, here’s your front row seat into the process of directing, why it’s necessary and how a first-class cabaret show is put together and achieved.
If anyone has lived a life immersed in cabaret, it’s Lennie Watts. He’s an actor, performer (he launched his own first cabaret performance in 1989), a past president of MAC, educator and founder of Singnasium, multi-multi-award winner (MAC, Bistro, Nightlife) and the creator of the summer’s eight-week, mixed-genre, talent competition, Mama’s Next BIG Act!, which just completed it’s ninth year. With all of these talents and decades of experience, Watts is also one of the most sought-after directors in cabaret—and a go-to especially for the many performers who call Don’t Tell Mama home.
