Jazz legend and 14-time GRAMMY winner, pianist Herbie Hancock, makes a rare appearance at nearby New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Friday, July 31 at 8 PM, along with Terence Blanchard – trumpet, James Genus – bass, Lionel Loueke – guitar and Jaylen Petinaud – drums.
Now 70+ years into his astounding cross-genre career, Hancock is one of the most acclaimed and honored musicians of our time. Throughout his musical explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice. There are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B than Hancock. His talent caught the attention of Miles Davis, who recruited Hancock in 1963 to join his legendary Second Great Quintet. During his five years with Davis, he helped redefine the traditional role of the jazz rhythm section by incorporating expanded, spontaneous solos and flexible tempos.
In addition to his multiple GRAMMY Awards, Hancock has received a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, an Oscar, an NEA Jazz Master award, Kennedy Center Honors awards, and more.
