Harvey Granat’s 92Y Songbook Series Streams on Mondays, August 10, 17 and 24

Singer, producer, educator and historian Harvey Granat has been regularly hosting his popular 92Y series Harvey Granat Presents for years. The opportunity to experience the host’s charm and the special guests whom he interviews and who perform on the show now goes virtual via Zoom. The programs are on Mondays, August 10, 17, and 24 from 1-2 pm ET.

This series of three special shows will explore the musicians, composers, and lyricists that helped created the Great American Songbook. These “standards” transcend the time in which they were written to become the cultural fabric for generations of music lovers and are revived time and time again as reflections of the human spirit. Through performance, video and images, Granat will showcase just a few of the talents whose lyrics or music help make up this canon, including Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Harold Arlen, Marvin Hamlisch, Dorothy Fields, and Sammy Cahn.

The schedule for Harvey Granat Presents Icons of the Great American Songbook: Setting the Standard is as follows:

• Aug 10: Rodgers & Hammerstein (with a special focus on Carousel and The King and I) with special guest singer/pianist, Daryl Sherman.

• Aug 17: Harold Arlen and Marvin Hamlisch with special guest, the up-and-coming Broadway performer, Emma McGahan.

• Aug 24: Dorothy Fields and Sammy Cahn with special guest, Lisanne Lyons, one of south Florida’s leading jazz vocalists and head of jazz vocal studies at FIU School of Music.
