Fall Schedule for 92Y’s Cabaret Conversations, With Michael Kirk Lane, Begins Monday, September 14 with Karen Mason

The School of Music at 92Y has recently announced the latest guests in the Cabaret Conversations series. Award winning cabaret performer and member of the 92Y Music Faculty, Michael Kirk Lane curates this series of conversations about the art form of cabaret in New York City. The series continues, beginning on Monday, September 14 at 6 pm with Broadway, Off-Broadway, television and recording artist Karen Mason, who has garnered rave reviews starring as The Queen of Hearts in Wonderland and originating the role of Tanya in Abba’s Mamma Mia—and many more.

The schedule for the remainder of 2020 is:

October 5, 2020: Natalie Douglas, Nightlife, two-time Bistro, twelve-time MAC, and BroadwayWorld Best Cabaret Vocalist Award Winner and recipient of the Donald F. Smith & Margaret Whiting Awards from the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Her portrait also hangs on the legendary Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame.

November 16, 2020: Chita Rivera, theatrical icon and one of Broadway’s greatest triple-threat talents. Rivera is one of the most nominated performers in Tony Award history, having earned 10 nominations, won twice and received the 2018 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. She created starring roles in such landmark Broadway musicals as West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, The Rink, Kiss of the Spider Woman and The Visit. Rivers is also the recipient of The Presidential Medal of Freedom presented by President Barack Obama and a Kennedy Center Honor.

December 7, 2020: Sidney Myer, the quintessential embodiment of New York Cabaret. Myer has been a Cabaret Booking Manager for almost four decades at clubs including Don’t Tell Mama, Rose’s Turn and Panache. Artists he has presented have gone on to careers on Broadway, TV, motion pictures; have become the “Star Search” $100,000 Grand Prize Winner; and have received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize.

Welcoming performers, directors, and journalists, these conversations delve into the history and current state of this unique performance style. Each conversation includes a Q&A session for the participants. These conversations may be purchased individually, or as a package of 3 at a discounted price.
