Doris Dear’s Gurl Talk, Slightly Sondheim, at The Triad, Was a Veritable Love Fest

By Scott Barbarino***I’ve been around awhile and have known Doris Dear for quite a few years now. I first met her when she joined Terese Genecco and her Little Big Band at Iridium as a special guest. I was fortunate enough to join her and Terese on the performance stage for the opening of Gay Pride on The Pier in 2013. My how the time has flown!

Over these years Doris has never ceased to amaze me and this latest Gurl Talk show at The Triad, Slightly Sondheim, was a crazy idea that works absolutely perfectly in every way. Backed by her incredible musicians, Christopher Koelzer (piano) and Magda Kress (bass), Dear was also joined by special guest, the wonderful Meg Flather. The whole evening was a palpable love fest!

Doris Dear is aka Ray DeForest, who takes this character to full bloom; he and Doris share the same skin and are as one. Doris Dear is like Virginia Graham on steroids! What’s next, Gilbert and Sullivan?

See Doris whenever you can. You can catch her next at The St. George Theatre in Staten Island. For more information click here. Follow Doris at https://dorisdear.com/
