Dorado Schmitt returns to Birdland with the Django Festival Allstars for the Django Reinhardt NY Festival "HOT JAZZ" from November 6 through the 11th at Birdland Jazz Club. Produced by Pat Philips, the festival features sons Samson and Amati Schmitt, plus soloists Ludovic Beier and Pierre Blanchard, with special guests Edmar Castaneda, Grace Kelly, Joel Frahm and newcomer Evan Sherman. The band is joined by gypsy "cousins" Francko Mehrstein on rhythm guitar and Gino Roman on bass. Co-founded with Ettore Stratta, the "hot swing" musical style of legenary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt is now being showcased in its 19th year.
Gypsy Dorado Schmitt, from the Alsace region of France, concentrtes on playing violin, taught to him by his father who has passed the torch to him in the gypsy tradition. The musical style of the band is influenced by French Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli as well as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.
