By Tony Javed***Broadway and cabaret star, Tony Award-winner Donna McKechnie, closed out the season of the Hamptons Summer Songbook by the Sea over Labor Day weekend with A Musical Memoir, at LTV Studios in Wainscott, LI. And her amazing performance 
was truly intimate and exquisite.
McKechnie reflected on her early roots coming to New York City in 1959, and dropping out of high school at age 15 to pursue dance and the stage. Over the years, having achieved her dream (lucky us!), she worked with some of the most notable figures in American musical theater including the likes of Michael Bennett, Bob Fosse, Gwen Verdon, Stephen Sondheim, Marvin Hamlisch and more—a Who’s Who of Broadway.
The star shared memories and beautifully performed songs from productions including A Chorus Line, Company, A Little Night Music, On the Town, Sweet Charity and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Hr most recent Broadway outing was as Madame Morrible in Wicked. The versatile McKechnie has also appeared on television and in film. Her memoir, Time Steps: My Musical Comedy Life, was published by Simon & Schuster, and in 2019, she was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame, an honor so well-deserved.
