Diane Hoffman & Her Quartet Perform at Jazz at Kitano on Wednesday, February 6th

Jazz vocalist Diane Hoffman performs at Jazz at Kitano on Wednesday, February 6th at 8pm, with her quartet, Lee Tomboulian on piano, Yoshi Waki on bass and Brian Fishler on drums.

Hoffman’s recent album Do I Love You was inspired by a commitment to share aspects of her personal and private life publicly, and she tirelessly searched myriad songs in an effort to select lyrics that deeply touched her. She felt strongly that it was important that listeners share a personal connection to the story painted through the lyrics, and that the words chosen needed to be completely authentic to both her and her audience.

Hoffman is not only a multi-faceted, hard-swinging singer, but is also an accomplished painter. Raised in Cambridge, MA, Hoffman earned a BFA from the California College of Art and later studied independently with famed painter Jacques Fabert in Erongarícuaro, Mexico. Her singing debut was at Sonny’s Place, in Seaford, Long Island in the late nineties. Her often unique repertoire is informed by her painter’s passion for narrative, tone, and balance; she has been recognized for her rich-textured voice, original phrasing and natural feel for jazz and blues.
