Developing Artists’ Rebel Verses Plays at the Vineyard Theatre Through Saturday, August 10 and on August 15-17

Emmy nominee Brandon Victor Dixon (NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar’) and Danny Hoch (“She’s Gotta Have It”)  join the list of guest artists for Rebel Verses, a two-week festival of performances by some of the best youth companies in New York City and beyond. Vineyard Theatre and Developing Artists again partner for performances Thursday, August 8 through August 17 at 7 PM each night. Sean Carvajal (King Lear, Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train) will emcee all performances.

Rebel Verses provides an opportunity for young artists ages 13-19 to perform their own original work and to collaborate and network with their peers and prominent guest artists. Each night will include a prominent Guest Artist joining the festival for a special performance. The schedule is as follows:

• Spoken word artist Vanessa Hidary (“The Hebrew Mamita”) will perform Thursday, August 8.
• Recording artist/actor Alex Newell (“Glee,” Once on This Island) will perform Friday, August 9.
• Playwrigh/actor Danny Hoch (“She’s Gotta Have It”) will perform Saturday, August 10.
• Recording artist/actor Tina Fabrique (Ragtime) will perform Thursday, August 15.
• Tony & Emmy nominated Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton) will perform Friday, August 16.
• “Scandal” star, Emmy Award-winner Joe Morton will perform Saturday, August 17.

Week One will feature performances by young-artist companies The Door (New York City), Epic NEXT (New York City), Pry Safe (Brooklyn, NY), and Urban Word (New York City). Week Two will feature G!rl Be Heard (New York City), Loco-Motion Dance Theatre (New York City), MCC Youth Company (New York City), and Poetesses (Jersey City, NJ). Developing Artists, Vineyard Theatre Student Ensemble, and Alumni Theater Company (Pittsburgh) will perform on all nights of the Festival.

All youth artists participating in Rebel Verses receive meals, metrocards, and for the first time this season, performance stipends provided by Vineyard Theatre.
