Coming Up at The Green Room 42, August 12th and Beyond

The Green Room 42, which recently celebrated its one year anniversary, is entering its second year with a robust roster of shows. Upcoming are:

RUSS KAPLAN’s Broadway Jazz Session with special guests TELLY LEUNG and JOANNA ALEXIS JONES (Hamilton)

Sunday, August 12 at 7:00 PM

Russ Kaplan, composer of In Transit, and his eight-piece band return to The Green Room 42 for their bi-monthly series. Kaplan and friends perform the Broadway songbook with radical twists on showtunes, from Hello, Dolly! to The Band’s Visit and more. The band features Brian Adler on percussion, Eric Biondo on trumpet, Moppa Elliott on bass, Tom Gavin on guitar, Russ Kaplan on piano, Christof Knoche on alto sax, bass clarinet and flute, Kyle Saulnier on baritone & tenor sax and flute and Wayan Zoey on drums. 

Broadway Sings Unplugged: WHITNEY HOUSTON

Monday, August 13 at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM

The team behind the Broadway Sings concert series brings the first concert of their year-long residency to The Green Room 42. The series will feature acoustic, “unplugged” versions of the brand new arrangements that were written for the original series at the Highline Ballroom. Broadway Sings Unplugged: Whitney Houston will feature Nick Rashad Burroughs (Kinky Boots), Aisha Jackson (Frozen), Amber Iman (Hamilton), Corey Mach (Kinky Boots), and more to be announced shortly. Unplugged is produced and directed by Corey Mach, with music direction and arrangements by Joshua Stephen Kartes.

ELEW: ROCKJAZZ

Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 PM

Elew’s Rockjazz fuses his classically trained piano skills with modern pop and rock music generating a new genre. Elew began his career as a jazz pianist Eric Lewis, performing alongside Wynton Marsalis and Elvin Jones. A winner of the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, he recently collaborated with Lil Wayne, performed with Sting, The Roots, and Natalie Cole, in addition to opening on tour for Josh Groban.

SPENCER DAY

Spencer Day, continues his residency showcasing his humor as well a wide range of his diverse and eclectic original songs, along with interpretations of classic songs ranging from Cole Porter to David Bowie.

ALICE RIPLEY: Ripley Prescription

AILI VENHO and JOSHUA HINCK; Losing My Mind: A Sondheim Disco Fever Dream

Aili Venho (50 Shades! The Musical) and Joshua Hinck (Hail Oblivion: A Pirate Fantasia, To Hell and Back) team up for their debut at The Green Room 42 in Losing My Mind: A Sondheim Disco Fever Dream. The duo are putting it together with funky new arrangements of favorite Sondheim songs complete with a live orchestra.

BERNSTEIN: 100 YEARS, A Centennial Celebration to benefit The National Museum of American Jewish History

The Green Room 42 and Broadway stars bring a celebration of Leonard Bernstein on the day of his 100th Birthday. Directed by Daniel Dunlow and James Harwood, Bernstein: 100 Years features music from his greatest shows such as West Side Story, On The Town, Candide, and more. Proceeds help to fund the National Museum of American Jewish History. Casting willl be announced soon.

JENNIFER SIMARD: Stigma

Stigma celebrates the crazy in all of us, with laughs, tears, and rock-n-roll. Tony Award nominee Jennifer Simard debuts her NYC solo show covering some of her favorite artists. Stigma is directed by Thomas CarusoSteve Marzullo serves and musical director and arranger with Lael Van Keuren and Maggie McDowell on backup vocals.

REEVE CARNEY FEATURING SONGS FROM HIS LATEST ALBUM YOUTH IS WASTED

Reeve Carney appears before he heads to London to star in the Broadway-bound musical Hadestown at the National Theatre. Reeve’s latest album, Youth is Wasted, was recorded primarily in his New York apartment. During his demanding Spider-Man schedule, it was impossible to get back and forth to the studio, so Reeve decided to build his own studio–right in his living room, playing every single instrument himself. The show features selections from Youth Is Wasted, as well a few surprises from the Broadway canon and the Great American Songbook.

ELLYN MARIE MARSH: From Kinky Boots and Pretty Woman: The Musical

Everyone has had a break up. Everyone has been cheated on. And everyone will feel a lot better about their love life after they’ve heard what happened in Ellyn’s. Ellyn Marie Marsh and friends perform songs and stories about the “unique” end to her recent relationship in a show that would be “criminal to miss.” The show is directed by Richard Amelious with musical direction by Drew Wutke.

SIMPLY BARBRA: Celebrating 50 Years of the FUNNY GIRL movie

Steven Brinberg makes his debut at The Green Room 42 with the latest edition of Simply Barbra his homage to the legendary Barbra Streisand which he has performed all over the world. This show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of the film Funny Girlwhich premiered on Sept. 19, 1968 not far from The Green Room at the Criterion Theatre on Broadway. Also expect other Streisand hits and surprises. 

THE RAT PACK UNDEAD: A-LIVE in Concert

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. are back from the Dead, as literally undead crooners. Now in its 5th year in New York City, The Boys are back on 42nd Street making their undead debut at The Green Room 42. Adding a spookish spin to their biggest hits, hear “undead” songs more comical than creepy, more entertaining than eerie. The show is created and produced by Cooper Jordan, with musical direction by Michael Thomas Murray, choreography by Avital Asuleen, and parody lyrics by Cooper Jordan and Grant Bowen.

AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS: A Musical Homage to the World War II Era and Big Band

America’s Sweethearts bring their celebration of vintage music to The Green Room 42. Directed by Carly Kincannon, Sing Sing Sing pays homage to the WWII era and big band music, not to mention The Sweets’ inspiration, The Andrews Sisters. Featuring songs such as “Bei Mir Bist du Schoen,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

FRANCES RUFFELLE: Live(S) in New York

Tony Award winner Frances Ruffelle is back in town with her solo performance, an intimate evening of song that whispers seductive secrets, lays bare the naked truth and loose comic confidence. The show is co-created by Frances Ruffelle and Gwyneth Herbert, with Musical arrangements by Gwyneth Herbert with additional arrangements by Jude Obermuller and David Barber.

GOLDILOCKS: The classic musical in concert starring CHRISTINE PEDI

Featuring the songs of Goldilocks! this show is a celebration of Leroy AndersonJean and Walter Kerr, and Jean Ford’s musical, with a cast led by Christine Pedi. This concert is produced and directed by the Second Act SeriesSteven Carl McCasland and James Horan.

ANDREA WOLFF: I Can’t Trace Time

Andrea Wolff makes her Green Room 42 debut in I Can’t Trace Time, a look at the arc of life beginning with childhood, featuring a mixture of pop and Broadway tunes. The show is directed by Dan Ruth with Jude Obermuller serving as Musical Director and arranger. 

WILLY FALK: Mostly Love…

Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 PM

Because most songs  and the best songs in the world, are about love, Willy Falk sings a range of songs from Sara Bareilles to Irving Berlin to The Eagles. Falk received a Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of “Chris” in the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon. In the world of operas and concerts, he has sung with The Colorado Symphony, The Hawaii Opera Theatre, The Shreveport Opera, The Augusta Opera, Opera New Hampshire, The Acadiana Symphony, The National Orchestra of Lyon and the Lyrique-en-Mer Festival in France.

KT SULLIVAN & MARK NADLER: Almost Like Being in Love—Celebrating 100 Years of Alan Jay Lerner

KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler is a duo that has been described by Stephen Holden in the New York Times as “Ferociously entertaining!” They are reuniting to celebrate the centenary of Alan Jay Lerner with their new show, Almost Like Being In Love. “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “Gigi” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” are just a few of the dozens of Lerner masterpieces represented in the show.

VIVIAN REED: Sings Lena Horne

Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 PM

Vivian Reed Sings Lena Horne celebrates Lena Horne’s centennial. The evening includes some of Horne’s well known standards reinterpreted by Vivian’s arrangements and vocal stylings. She will be accompanied by a four piece band including piano, bass, drums and guitar. Miss Horne had a personal impact on her life years ago when Reed’s career was being managed by Bobby Schiffman and Honi Coles of the Apollo Theater.
