Cabaret Legend Marilyn Maye Featured on CBS “Sunday Morning” on January 28

This Sunday, January 28th, at 9:00 AM, the woman who’s been dubbed The Queen of Cabaret and The Marvelous Marilyn Maye, will be featured in a CBS “Sunday Morning” segment hosted by Mo Rocca. Camera crews have been filming Maye’s performances in various locations, from NYC (the Metropolitan Room, her Master Class) to The Inn at Lake Okoboji in Northern Iowa, where she’s been performing annually for the past 60 years. As she approaches her 90th birthday, Rocca’s interview with the legendary diva will cover her career as a singer, actress, director, arranger, educator, Grammy-nominated recording artist and  national treasure.

Maye appeared 76 times on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” – the record for a singer. She began her professional career by winning a 13-week appearance on radio station WIBW, Topeka, Kansas, at age 9. During her 11-year engagement at the Colony in Kansas City, she was “discovered” by Steve Allen, who was the first to present her to a national television audience. Those performances led her to an RCA recording contract, and further prominence as a performer on the national stage. Maye continues to appear around the United States in symphonic concerts, as well as in jazz and supper clubs and cabaret rooms. Her more than 100 engagements in the last nine years in New York include sold-out multiple-night runs at the Metropolitan Room, Birdland, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, five two-week runs at Feinstein’s at The Loews Regency Hotel, Feinstein’s/54 Below, appearances at New York’s Town Hall, the 92nd Street Y, The Iridium and a Sondheim tribute at Carnegie Hall.

CBS Sunday Morning airs at 9:00 AM EST on January 28.
