Vocalist Charenee Wade brings a sound rooted in the blues to Dizzy’s Club, with Bluesday on Tuesday, June 2 at 9 PM. She’ll be backed by Oscar Perez, piano; Paul Beaudry, bass and Wen-Ting Wu, drums.
Blending jazz with a natural sense of storytelling, Wade draws on the rich traditions of blues and jazz to tell stories of love, loss, resilience and joy.
The singer was 1st Runner-Up in the 2010 Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition, and 2017 recipient of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Millennial Swing Award. She has worked with notable artists including Wynton Marsalis, Terri Lyne Carrington, Christian McBride, Winard Harper, Eric Reed, Jacky Terrason, Robert Glasper, and Kyle Abraham (MacArthur Genius Awardee). Her current album, The Music of Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson, is a re-interpretation of the poet’s musical library, which features notable artists including Lonnie Plaxico, Marcus Miller, Stefon Harris, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Christian McBride (spoken word).
