Award Season: Drama Desk and Obie Awards Will Be Virtual

The 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards, honoring outstanding performance in Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theater, will be presented virtually on Sunday, May 31, 2020. The Drama Desk has revised the season end date to March 11, with the release of nominations scheduled for April 21. Additional details on the awards announcement will be released in the weeks ahead.

The Obie Awards, which honor outstanding performance in New York theater Off- and Off-Off Broadway, will go virtual, with a date to be announced. The live presentation of the awards had been scheduled for Monday, May 18.

As reported, the Lucille Lortel Awards, for Off Broadway work, will hold a virtual ceremony on Sunday, May 3. The Chita Rivera Awards, which honor theatrical dance, were postponed from spring to later in the year. The Jimmy Awards, which honor high school musical theater performers, has been canceled.

The Pulitzer Prizes scheduled to be announced on April 20, will be announced on May 4 at 3 pm via livestream at pulitzer.org. The Pulitzer Prizes and Fellowships, established in Columbia University by the will of the first Joseph Pulitzer, are awarded by the University on the recommendation of The Pulitzer Prize Board. The Board meets twice annually. There are 22 categories across journalism, books, drama and music.
