In a city-wide sing-along, New Yorkers will belt out “New York, New York” from their windows tonight at 7:02 pm, directly following the nightly #ClapBecauseWeCare ritual. The New York Sings Along event was organized by the Peace of Heart Choir, a community choir that was formed after 9/11.
To help synchronize the event, local radio stations WKCR (89.9 FM) and WBAI (99.5 FM) will broadcast the track of Frank Sinatra singing the song, which will also be live-streamed on the Choir’s Facebook page. “Connect speakers to your computer or phone for the Facebook Live event, and point them out your window, so others outside might hear you,” they suggest.
The Choir, which performs for free at the city’s hospitals, nursing homes and shelters, says that they’d like to do different songs in the future, so stay tuned for further announcements.
