The Next Cabaret History and Great Performances Class with Michael Kirk Lane, at 92Y, Begins on Thursday, August 5

The next session of 92Y School of Music’s Cabaret History and Great Performances class begins online on Thursday Aug 5th at 7 PM, presented by Michael Kirk Lane. Using video and audio recordings of influential performers throughout the decades, the series explores the history of the art form and where itis headed into the future.

The class is broken down into four sections, as follows:

Week 1: European beginnings to 1940s New York

Week 2: New York Cabaret 1950s-1960s

Week 3: New York Cabaret 1970s-1980s

Week 4: New York Cabaret 1990-today and looking ahead

Michael Kirk Lane is an award-winning cabaret artist, having won the 2020 Manhattan Association of Cabaret Award for Male Musical Comedy Performer. Along with 3 previous MAC nominations, Lane has been nominated for three BroadwayWorld Cabaret Awards, winning in 2018 for Best Show.

Beyond his own experience performing in cabaret, Lane’s experience managing two of the city’s most renowned cabaret venues (The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Don’t Tell Mama) offers him a unique vantage point and perspective on the art form. As a teaching artist for over 20 years, Lane has taught all ages from pre-school to retirement homes. In each class he brings the same philosophy to his teaching, no matter the age of the students.
