Sue’s Muse: An Interview with Frances Hill

Full disclosure: I am the producer of this year’s Winter Rhythms Festival, but never the less this interview is with one of my favorite muses in the city. She is the founder and director of Urban Stages—along with a few INCREDIBLE ladies in the office: Antoinette Mullins, Ilana Saltzman, Sarah Gomez and Janet Fanale— they run this non-profit theater on the kindness of supporters of the arts, as well as grants and sheer tenacity. She is my idol and one of the women I personally most respect for her complete devotion to the arts, not only in producing amazing, new and provocative plays throughout the year, but for giving me full rein to produce the annual 11-night, 21-show music festival called Winter Rhythms—a benefit devoted specifically to sponsoring all the wonderful Outreach Programs of Urban Stages (See direct link below.) SUE MATSUKI is an award-winning singer and songwriter, producer, open mic host, educator, columnist and the author of So You Want to Sing Cabaret. Matsuki is the Producer of the annual Urban Stages’ Winter Rhythms series, NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singers) NMTC National Musical Theater Competition as well as many other benefits and shows.
