Sue’s Muse: An Interview with Diva LaMarr

This is a young person (they/them – she/her) who I have known since I saw them perform at the MetroStar competition some 15 years ago. I was impressed then and have become a fan since. I, along with other of Diva’s supporters, have traveled all over the east coast in road trips to see them perform in various productions in various roles and in various genders…yes, they are all that and a bag o’ chips on talent. They have recently been killing it in reimagined productions of Cabaret (the Emcee) and Little Shop of Horrors (the Plant) in what can only be described as break out performances. I have to give credit to the theater companies for encouraging Diva to bring her own special spin to each role. We also discuss the progress (and/or lack thereof) of how Broadway and theater are now responding to non-binary identifying performers and the audition process. Meet the lovely Diva LaMarr….

Here is a link to Diva singing “I Don’t Care Much” that I referred to in this interview. It will give you gooseflesh! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfN0vs1vw1A

Here is the information for Little Shop of Horrors in Maine where Diva will understudy Rue Paul’s Latrice Royale:
