Broadway star, actress and vocalist, Stephanie Mills, with The Whispers, performs at NJPAC in Newark, NJ on Saturday, January 15 at 8:00 PM and in Brooklyn at the Kings Theater on Sunday, January 16 at 7:00 PM. The show in New Jersey is part of NJPAC’s annual celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Mills (original star of The Wiz) performs R&B hits from her 35-year career, appearing with The Whispers, one of the world’s longest-running soul vocal groups, who are celebrating over 50 years in the industry, and who are known for their smooth soulful ballads.
In addition to her stage work, Mills has five gold albums to her credit, with hits such as “I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love,” “Home,” “Something in the Way (You Make Me Feel)” and “Never Knew Love Like This Before.” Mills is a Grammy award-winner who started singing at the age of three. She won the competitive Amateur Hour at the Apollo for six straight weeks and made her Broadway debut at a young age starring in the musical Maggie Flynn. Mills has also been honored with a Tony Award, NAACP Image Awards and American Music Award, to name a few.
