Thank heaven for little girls, says the song… or in this case—chicks! Shari Pine thoughtfully delivers songs from her “color-within-the-lines years,” contemplating the innocence of youth and the excitement of life, all the while daring to “substitute burnt orange for jungle green.” Pine sings songs ranging from Jimmy Webb and Johnny Prine to Stephen Sondheim and the Fifth Dimension. From Crayons To Perfume: Songs Chicks Are Made Of also features Peter Calo on guitar, on Saturday, October 27th at 9:30 pm at Pangea.
Pine’s repertoire ranges from American popular song and musical theater to jazz and soul, with one foot anchored in tradition and the other stepping into the future (armed with every crayon in the box). Additionally, Pine is a composer/bandleader. She has performed with her group, Righteous Rhythm, in venues across NYC, performing original songs that tell stories, with lyrics that are sometimes sweet and sometimes sardonic, but always aiming to deliver the song with utmost truth.
