The Off-Broadway venue, 59E59 Theaters will kick off its second annual AMPLIFY Festival begginning on Tuesday, August 13. The one-of-a-kind festival spotlights three original works by the same playwright across all three stages in the space. This year, local, award-winning playwright Chisa Hutchinson will put her bold works front and center with the NYC premieres of The Bleeding Class, Redeemed and Amerikin.
The Bleeding Class (August 13-September 1) combines science fiction, thriller, and camp as the characters create an unlikely alliance to find a cure to save humanity from a mysterious plague.
With Reginald L. Barnes, Jackson Hayes, Tamar Lopez, Vincent Szutenbach, Tatiyana Alvarez, Txai Frota, and Lambert Tamin When a mysterious plague throws society into chaos, it results in an unlikely alliance between the reserved Dr. Pennington and a strong-willed escort named Sugar, whose immune system may hold the key to saving the world. Sugar and Dr. Pennington trade personal barbs and professional observations as they race to find a cure, but there’s something more important than human life at stake – money.
Redeemed (September 15-October 15): An Asian American woman visits the man who murdered her brother in prison who claims he is being haunted by her brother’s ghost. She must decide if she believes him and if he is capable of redemption.
Amerikin (March 1-April 13, 2025): A new dad joins a local white supremacist group to try to get an advantage in his life. After getting surprising results from an ancestry test, he struggles to maintain appearances and must find a way to protect his family after a Black journalist and his daughter start investigating.
