Dedicated to the late, great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG), Ruth Sent Us: A Benefit For Reproductive Justice will play at The Green Room 42 on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00 PM. Music direction is by Andrea Grody, with direction by producer Mara Jill Herman.
This one-night-only concert will celebrate RBG’s legacy through songs and discussion from the Broadway community. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Jewish Fund For Abortion Access. Ruth Sent Us will feature Jennifer Apple, Danyel Fulton, Rebecca Hargrove, Kendyl Ito, Annemarie Josephson, Austin Ku, Lauren Lebowitz, Mauricio Martinez, Tara Novie, Andrea Pilar, Andrea Prestinario, Tunisia Renee, Celia Mei Rubin, Tatiana Scott, Anne Fraser Thomas, and members of America’s Sweethearts: Mollie Craven, Kristen Michelle, and Samantha Joy Pearlman.
The concert also features original music from the duos Marina Pires and Luke Wygodny of The Heartstrings Project; Lisa Diana Shapiro and Miriam Daly; and Emmy Nominee David Dabbon and SEVAN. Shara Ashley Zeiger will moderate a panel talk.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg said, “The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, to her well-being and dignity. It is a decision she must make for herself. When government controls that decision for her, she is being treated less than a fully adult human responsible for her own choices.”
Ruth Sent Us grew to realization in the months that followed the overturning of Roe v Wade. Friends came together to campaign for a world where abortion isn’t just legal—it’s accessible, affordable, and destigmatized. Ruth Sent Us advocates that abortion bans are systemic discrimination and racism in action—and that our constitutional right to privacy and religious freedom is in direct opposition with the abortion ban. The producers also state that never before has a court taken away a fundamental right in which our human rights are at stake—abortion is healthcare.
