Rock and Roll Man Ends Its Run with a Sold-Out House and Swell Party

By Andrew Poretz***The delightful jukebox musical Rock and Roll Man ended its successful stint at the New World Stages on September 1st, and this reporter attended both the sold-out show and the cast party at Hurley’s Saloon.  The show, about the meteoric rise and tragic fall of the legendary DJ Alan Freed (played by Constantine Maroulis) who named the genre “Rock & Roll.” Supporting roles were played by Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos) and a scenery chewing star turn by Rodrick Covington as Little Richard. The producers say the next stop may be Broadway!

Rock & Roll Man was written by Gary Kupper, Larry Marshak and Rose Caiola, with original music and lyrics by Kupper. The show was directed by Tony Award® nominee Randal Myler with choreography by Stephanie Klemons (Associate Choreographer and Global Dance Supervisor of Hamilton).
