Public Forum Civic Salon “To Be Counted” Travels to the Five Boroughs, from March 22 to April 4

The Public Theater’s Public Forum is taking its Civic Salons on the road with To Be Counted, featuring music from singer-songwriter Martha Redbone, poetry from NSangou Njikam and stories from attending community members. Each event is free and open to all. The 2020 Census is coming, and the results will determine how political and economic resources are distributed on a local, state-wide, and federal level for the next decade. But in a climate of divisiveness and fear, what does it mean to stand up and be counted?

Public Forum will travel throughout all five boroughs of New York City hosting gatherings that feature free food, music, poetry, and conversation. Members of the NYC 2020 Census Bureau will be present to answer questions. In this participatory event, taking 10 minutes to answer 10 simple questions could impact the next 10 years in a community.

Reservations are recommended, as space may be limited. The calendar is as follows:

• Kick-Off event on Sunday, March 22 at 12:00pm  at Joe’s Pub, with poet and activist Staceyann Chin

• Tuesday, March 31 at 5:00 pm at Mott Haven Library, The Bronx (321 East 140th St) RSVP on Eventbrite

• Wednesday, April 1 at 6:00pm at Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn (158 Buffalo Ave)

• Thursday, April 2 at 6:00pm at Queens Public Library – Central Branch (89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica)

• Saturday, April 4 at 1:00 pm at Faber Park Field House, Staten Island (Richmond Terrace & Faber St. RSVP by email
