Pangea Is Not Only Open for Outdoor Dining, But for Art and Starry Conversation

Pangea may not be hosting live performances, but the people stopping by and the stories shared are equally priceless. This is what NYC is all about, says Pangea owner Stephen Shanaghan.

The nightclub and interior dining have, of course, been shuttered since the COVID-19 lockdown in March, but the inventive scene creator Arnoldo Caballero Y Cespedes has turned the sidewalk outside Pangea on 2ndAvenue into a gallery space with real art adorning nearby scaffolding. The result: turning the sidewalk outside into an artfully appointed gallery set. Since this transformation, diners have included many of the artists and notable patrons of Pangea, adding the panache of lively conversation and artistic energy to the scene.

Pangea has long been a favored Italian-Mediterranean restaurant in the East Village, expanding into cabaret and music programming in 2015. Since then the club has been on the forefront of the alt-cabaret movement, serving as an incubator for new work—especially in particular theatre-music hybrids.

Dinner is served Monday through Saturday 5-10 pm, with Happy Hour from 5-7 pm Monday through Saturday—featuring $6 Small Plates and $8 Wines.

Additionally, Pangea launched a Go Fund Me campaign some months ago, and continued contributions are welcome.  Like all small venues suffering the consequences of being unable to completely function during this pandemic crisis, the future is uncertain. You can help by contributing any amount here.

Pangea Restaurant and Bar is locted at 178 2nd Ave, New York, NY, 212-995-0900
