In a tribute to composer Jimmy Van Heusen, Swingin’ on a Star, Marissa Mulder appears at the Cutting Room on Sunday, June 2 at 1 PM. Music director-pianist is Jon Weber, with Lance Conrad on guitar, Philip Ambuel on bass and Ahmad Johnson on drums.
Van Heusen was a four-time Oscar winning songwriter, one of the most prolific and one of the most colorful. He test-piloted fighter planes while creating timeless classics such as “Love and Marriage,” “All The Way,” “High Hopes,” “Come Fly With Me” and more. Mulder traces his career from New York to Hollywood, where he wrote the songs for the Crosby/Hope road pictures. His musical partnership with longtime friend and fellow late-night reveler, Frank Sinatra, resulted over 80 Van Heusen songs recorded by Sinatra, more than by any other songwriter.
