Vocalist Marissa Mulder presents Souvenirs: a tribute to John Prine, on Wednesday, December 14 at 7 PM in the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Music director Jon Weber is on piano, with Mike Rosengarten on guitar.
The show is a result of COVID lockdown, when Mulder began contemplating Prine’s body of work—he’d recently died in April 2020 at age 73 from complications of COVID. The Grammy Award winner was a favorite of her father, but even growing up with the music didn’t strike her until, as an adult she found meaning in his lyrics. Thus, her tribute show to Prine began to take shape.
Prine was a singer-songwriter of country-folk based music. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation and has has been referred to as “the Mark Twain of songwriting.” His style was often humorous and also featured elements of protest and social commentary. Says Mulder, “He was a humble, quiet genius. He was a breath of fresh air!”
There is a $25 cover and $25 food/beverage minimum. Reserve tickets here.
The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located at 407 W. 42nd Street (downstairs in the West Bank Cafe), NYC
