New York-based, Honduran-American violinist Marissa Licata presents her show, Strings on Fire for The Ragtag Collection’s debut at Chelsea Table + Stage on Sunday, March 5 at 7:00 PM. Licata will be joined by a lineup featuring Bob Lanzetti (Snarky Puppy) on guitar, Dan Oestreicher (Trombone Shorty) on saxophone, Nori Naraoka (Jon Batiste) on bass and Joey Peebles (Trombone Shorty) on drums.
Strings on Fire highlights the versatility of the violin, while the Ragtag Collection melds styles and universally familiar melodies from classical, folk, Latin, and jazz, through the Americas, Middle East and Eastern European music traditions. The show also celebrates the release of the single “Cat’s Cradle,” a first glimpse into the Ragtag sound. The original, by Licata, was composed during the COVID quarantine when musicians had time and space to experiment, write and create.
Licata has collaborated and performed on national and international tours with Alicia Keys, Jethro Tull, Wyclef Jean, H.E.R., Ben Harper, Ringo Starr, K. Michelle, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, Gloria Estefan, Pras of the Fugees, and many more. Her major TV appearances include “Good Morning America,” “The View,” “The Latin Grammys,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The BET Awards.” She is active within the orchestral and chamber music scenes, guesting at chamber festivals throughout the Northeast and performing with the Boston Ballet. Additionally, Licata joined Boston’s American Repertory Theater as violinist and concertmistress for the Alanis Morrisette musical Jagged Little Pill. She also worked with A.R.T. to perform as concertmistress for the musical Moby-Dick, and recently returned to A.R.T. for their production of 1776, as well as playing for the show’s recent Broadway revival.
