The theatrical concert celebrates the three-time Academy Award-winning songwriting team of Alan & Marilyn Bergman. Having written the lyrics for numerous television shows, films, and stage musicals, the Bergman’s also wrote for some of the most renowned artists of the day, including time Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Michael Jackson, Johnny Mathis, and Barbra Streisand—who alone has recorded 64 Bergman songs.

The Friars Club was established in 1904 when representatives of the Broadway theatres, working with New York publicists, organized the Press Agents’ Association to exchange lists of people who were fraudulently receiving complimentary passes to shows. Shortly thereafter it began its tribute dinners to theatrical celebrities, adding more social activities and charitable initiatives as it grew. The Friars moved into their first clubhouse at 107 West 47th Street in 1908, and eventually into their current club house at 57 East 55th Street in 1957. For most of its history, the Friars was best known as a private men’s club for comedians and other celebrities. In the last several decades it broadened its membership and began admitting women in 1988.
